Recently Spice has launched its new Android One, Hindi Language variant smartphone Spice Dream Uno H in India. Alongside now Karbonn has announced that it will also be launching its second Android One based smartphone soon in the Indian market. The launch of the device is expected in the first quarter of 2015.
Karbonn Mobiles Executive Director, Shashin Devsare at an industry event in New Delhi on Wednesday has confirmed the same. According to Devsare, the Android One initiative will mature over time. While stressing on the company’s long term commitment towards Android One, Devsare was quoted as saying, ” Expect [a] new Android One smartphone in 2015 first quarter.”
The firm had then also announced new hardware partners for the Android One program, including Alcatel Onetouch, Asus, HTC, Intex, Lava, Lenovo, Panasonic, Xolo, and Qualcomm. The Mountain View giant revealed that it expects “more high-quality, affordable devices with different screen sizes, colours, hardware configurations and customized software experiences.”
Android One is Google’s much-hyped attempt to bring in low cost handsets boasting of high-quality hardware and a promise of regular software updates, primarily directed towards developing nations. The initiative was first launched in India, with domestic manufacturers Karbonn, Micromax, and Spice spearheading the movement. The Karbonn Sparkle V, Micromax Canvas A1, and Spice Dream Uno were the first handsets developed under the initiative.
