Tech Review : LG G6 Smartphone

LG G6 smartphones has now been officially launched for the Indian market and will go on sale starting 25 April 2017 at a price of Rs. 51,990. Also on ordering the smartphone on the first day will make the user eligible for Rs. 10,000 cashback via HDFC or SBI credit or debit card. At this price range the smartphone would be giving a tough competition to the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone.

Lets have a brief review of what LG G6 has brought up for its user.


LG G6 smartphone comes with a 5.7-inch Q-HD full vision display offering a screen resolution of 1440×2880 pixels along with a pixel density of 564 ppi. Despite of having this huge display the smartphone does not seems to be very big while handling it in the hand as the company has increased the aspect ration and is now offering 18:9 instead of 16:9 which makes the screen to body ratio to over 80 percent.


On the front as well as on the rear we have glass body with Gorilla Glass 5 protection and on the sides metal frame is holding the phone tight. LG G6 comes with Dolby Vision certification which means that the smartphone comes ready with HDR (High Dynamic Range) videos.


The firm has done a great job with the smartphone offering an aspect ratio of 18:9 with a screen display of 5.7-inch. Along with this both front and back comes with glass finish with Gorilla glass 5 protection on the rear and Gorilla glass 3 protection on the front. The edges on the back comes with a slight curve which makes it more comfortable to use and the metal frame on the side gives it a smart and premium look.


With a dimension of 148.9×71.9×7.9 mm the device weighs just 163 gms. On the back we have got a dual camera setup along with the power button which is also a fingerprint scanner. On the front we get a selfie camera on the top and on the bottom the device comes with a Type-C USB port along with primary microphone and a speaker grill. The left side of the smartphone showcases the volume button and on the right there is only the SIM tray.

The firm has added some great addition to the body of the device including that the device does not comes with a camera bump which allows it to lay flat on the surface also added to it the LG G6 come with IP68 certification which makes it dust and water resistant.

On the camera front the device comes with a dual 13-megapixel camera on the rear of which one is a regular snapper with f/1.8 aperture to take normal pictures while the other one is a 125-degree wide angle sensor with f/2.4 aperture that helps you to take picture with wide area in a single image even though you are very near to an object.


The rear camera comes with features including PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus), OIS 2.0, Manual Mode, Tracking Focus, Zero Shutter Lag, HDR Options, Zoom In Zoom Out, Filter Effect, Burst Mode, 360 Panorama Mode, Fast Snapshot, Multiview.

On the front the smartphone has been provided with a 5-megapixel snapper with f/2.2 aperture and 100-degree wide view angle.


On the hardware front, the device comes packed with Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor which is clocked with a 2.3 GHz Quad-Core Kryo 64-bit chipset along with Adreno 530 GPU. The device also comes packed with a 4 GB of RAM along with 64 GB of internal storage. However the storage can be expanded via microSD card slot which comes as a hybrid dual sim slot.

On the software front, the devices comes powered with Android Nougat v7.0 packed with LG UX 6.0 on top of it. The LG UX 6.0 comes with a bunch of customization features including the ability to make changes in the navigation button, its personal theme store, night mode, always on display and many more. Not only this the device also comes with a number of pre installed applications.


LG G6 comes packed with a 3300 mAh non-removable battery which is expected to give a day backup on rough usage. Also the firm has confirmed that they have kept some space between the battery and the LCD drives and have given some air gap which will make the smartphone less prone to exploding.

The connectivity option on the phone includes Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Hotspot, NFC and USB Type-c 2.0 port.
